Bogus Checks

A West Lampeter Township couple has been charged after writing nearly $40,000 in bogus checks to an Earl Township business earlier this year.

George W. Stanley,  and Dorothy A. Miller, both 30 years of age, wrote the checks to purchase asphalt from Burkholder Quarry,  between April 12 and 27, according to arrest affidavits.

Stanley and Miller were operating at the time as Traditional Paving. Police said they issued six checks written on an account with insufficient funds, resulting in a loss of nearly 40 grand to New Enterprise,

New Holland police charged Stanley and Miller with theft by deception and criminal conspiracy. Miller has posted bond while Stanley remains behind bars,

A preliminary hearing for both is scheduled for July 11
